With increasing population and the demand in developing countries for an increased quality of life, the world faces an enormous energy challenge over the next century.

The International Energy Agency’s predicts that between 2000 and 2030 global energy demand will grow by 70%.

This means the world needs extra generating capacity of approximately 4,800 gigawatts – five times the present capacity of the USA).

Most nations recognise the need to escape from dependency upon fossil fuels although, inevitably, these will be the main global energy source for the immediate future.

Availability of petroleum will decline, while more reliance will be placed upon coal and renewable energy.

This critical challenge can only be met through development of such new technologies as Laser Fusion Energy.
